“When my wife and I received planning permission in early 2025 to build a small downsizing home at the bottom of our garden in Exton, Devon, we decided to purchase a prefabricated house from Danwood Homes. As part of our contract with Danwood, we were responsible for providing the reinforced concrete foundation slab, constructed precisely to their engineering specification and approved before the house could be manufactured in Poland.
We asked Danwood if they could recommend a suitable groundwork contractor, and one of the companies they suggested was Earthworks Wilts Ltd. We are extremely pleased that we chose them.
Paul Chandler travelled from Burbage, Wiltshire, to visit our site, where he carefully assessed the plot, took the necessary measurements in accordance with the planning permission granted by East Devon District Council, and provided valuable advice regarding the ground conditions, drainage requirements and the overall groundwork needed for the project.
Within a couple of weeks, Paul submitted a detailed quotation, which we accepted. We agreed a programme of six equal weekly payments, reflecting the anticipated six-week construction period. Paul was also happy to use a local builder from our village to supply the necessary excavation equipment rather than transporting his own machinery from Wiltshire. This proved to be an excellent arrangement and worked very well for everyone involved.
Paul and his workman carried out all the groundwork professionally, efficiently and to a very high standard. They worked exceptionally well together, were reliable, hardworking and approachable throughout the project, and kept us informed at every stage. Despite the technical complexity of the foundation construction, everything progressed smoothly and was completed within the agreed six-week programme.
On completion, the foundation slab successfully passed inspection by Building Control (MFA), fully complying with the approved plans and Danwood's exacting technical requirements. This enabled Danwood to commence construction of our home in Poland with complete confidence.
Several weeks later, four articulated lorries arrived from Poland carrying the prefabricated sections of our new home. Danwood's team of skilled Polish craftsmen - including roofers, tilers, plumbers and electricians - assembled and completed the entire house in just eight weeks. None of this would have been possible without the accuracy and quality of the foundation prepared by Paul and his team.
